Our Mission

We were founded in 1972 to foster feminist and gender-informed perspectives in the study and teaching of all aspects of ancient Mediterranean cultures and classical antiquity.

We — women and men scholars, together — also strive to advance the goals of equality and diversity within the profession of Classics.

FEBRUARY 2009 NEWS:

The Women's Classical Caucus and WCC Graduate Students are now Groups on Facebook
Thanks to the initiative of Lindsay Morse, WCC Graduate Liaison (University of Washington) and Holt Parker (University of Cinncinati), two NEW Facebook Groups have been created for the WCC and its friends. CLICK HERE to see how to join Friends of the Women's Classical Caucus (and of course Facebook, if you are new to it), and CLICK HERE to join Women's Classical Caucus Graduate Students. If you've been wondering about Facebook and the impact of social networking on the internet, we refer you to two broadcasts about the Facebook phenomenon on National Public Radio: "Five Years of Facebook," and "Young Bosses Push Elders to Embrace Technology," (these links should open in a new window for your review).

The WCC welcomes its newly appointed Graduate Liaison, T. H. M. Gellar
We are delighted that T. H. M. Gellar ("Ted") has been chosen to join the Steering Committee work of the Women's Classical Caucus by joining Alexander Dressler and Lindsay Morse in the role of Graduate Liaison. Gellar, a graduate student at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, has already presented two papers on Latin poetry at the APA in 2008 and 2009, and organized the staffing of the WCC table at the Book Exhibition in 2009.
